Ace Combat 8 Introduces Live-Service Multiplayer with Social Hubs and Battle Passes

Ace Combat 8 is launching with Ace Combat Online, a live-service multiplayer suite featuring PvPvE modes, a social airforce base hub, and seasonal battle passes designed to keep the community connected long-term.

Bandai Namco is taking the long-running franchise in a bold new direction with Ace Combat Online, a dedicated companion multiplayer suite arriving alongside Ace Combat 8. According to reports from Eurogamer, the developers are leaning heavily into modern live-service structures to keep communities engaged over the long haul. The mode features a mix of cooperative PvE, competitive PvP, and chaotic PvPvE battles where two squads fight for high scores while managing shared threat levels and opposing player interference.

Beyond the dogfighting, Bandai Namco is addressing community feedback by introducing a dedicated social space. Players can walk around an airforce base avatar lobby, hang out with teammates between matches, and even play retro Bandai Namco arcade classics like Pac-Man or spin up nostalgic tracks on a jukebox. Producer Manabu Shimomoto explained that the decision stems from the massive global success of the previous entry, noting that fans wanted real opportunities to connect and meet up rather than playing in isolation.

Of course, modern multiplayer brings modern monetization. Ace Combat Online will feature a two-month seasonal structure complete with both free and paid Ace Pass tracks to unlock aircraft, weapons, and cosmetics. While battle passes can sometimes draw skepticism from players, the developers confirmed that planes featured in these passes will remain available for purchase after the season concludes. Timed emergency missions and classic raid-style boss encounters round out the offering, giving sky-high aerial combat fans plenty of reasons to stay plugged into the ecosystem.
