A New Report Shows Nearly 40 Percent of Xbox Releases in 2025 Were Gamerscore Shovelware

A TrueAchievements report reveals that nearly 40 percent of all Xbox releases in 2025 were low-effort shovelware games designed primarily to farm Gamerscore, reflecting a massive surge in automated asset publishing and profile padding.

A recent analysis from achievement tracking site TrueAchievements sheds light on the sheer volume of low effort content hitting Microsoft platforms. According to the report, nearly 40 percent of all games released on Xbox in 2025 were designed primarily to farm Gamerscore rather than offer any substantial gameplay. These titles are typically inexpensive, take only minutes to finish, and launch with a full stack of achievements.

Some even receive post launch updates that push their total Gamerscore even higher, turning profile padding into a streamlined business model. The scale of the influx is striking. TrueAchievements found that Xbox releases jumped by 65 percent year over year, rising from 1,370 games in 2024 to 2,262 titles in 2025.

Out of that 2025 total, roughly 881 releases qualified as easy Gamerscore spam, marking a 204 percent increase compared to the previous year. Certain publishers relied heavily on duplicate asset flips, pushing nearly identical experiences across different platforms or releasing dozens of variations with slight reskins just to generate separate achievement lists. Publishers like Afil Games alone pushed out 191 titles in a single year, maintaining low user ratings while confirming plans to continue the release strategy.

This flood of low quality content is altering the overall achievement ecosystem. Across the entire platform, over 63,500 achievements worth roughly 3.5 million Gamerscore were added in 2025, nearly doubling the totals from the year before.

Shovelware titles alone accounted for more than 2 million of that Gamerscore total. While Sony has previously taken steps to clean up its own storefront by quietly purging over 1,000 low effort trophy games, the situation on Xbox highlights the ongoing challenge digital marketplaces face when dealing with automated asset publishing and profile progression incentives.
