Mojang announced A Minecraft Movie Squared at TwitchCon Europe, revealing a 2027 theatrical release, a community building challenge, and fresh in game updates including Chaos Cubed.
Mojang used its recent Minecraft Live showcase at TwitchCon Europe to confirm that the upcoming sequel to the live action adaptation is officially titled A Minecraft Movie Squared. It is a neat nod to the voxel aesthetic that defined the sandbox phenomenon. Alongside the title drop, a behind the scenes teaser featured returning stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Danielle Brooks discussing their time filming in New Zealand. The production is also bringing in some heavy hitters, with Matt Berry and Kirsten Dunst joining the cast for the next cinematic outing.
The studio is leaning hard into community engagement for the film build up. Mojang launched a special build challenge running through June 8, giving creators a chance to see their in hand architecture featured in the final theatrical cut. For the broader player base, streaming integrations are in full swing. Fans can lock down an exclusive builder cape cosmetic simply by tuning into participating creator streams on Twitch and TikTok through June 14. The film itself is scheduled to land in theaters on July 23, 2027.
Beyond Hollywood, the showcase mapped out plenty of reasons to stay logged into the game itself. The upcoming Chaos Cubed update introduces a sulfur cave biome and corresponding mob on June 16, followed by Drop 3 and its dappled forest later in the year. Meanwhile, the team behind Minecraft Dungeons 2 shared early concept art featuring the formidable Twisted Warden boss alongside physical Lego tie ins. As reported by Polygon, Mojang and Microsoft are orchestrating a massive cross media push to keep the franchise top of mind across platforms for the foreseeable future.
